Project Overview

Residue Analysis - North America

A subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company, manufacturing fire suppression technology, requested chemical analysis of a black residue accumulating on commercial kitchen fire suppression spray nozzles (loaded with a mixture potassium acetate and potassium citrate, both white powders.) Scanning electron microscopy did not reveal potassium and infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed evidence of fatty acids used in cooking and amide (protein) bonds.
