Noninvasive detection of carotenoids via human skin

A North American food processing company was interested in noninvasive methods to detect carotenoids via human skin, in vivo. Optical detection, including Resonance Raman Scattering, Reflection Spectroscopy, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Terahertz (far infrared) Spectroscopy were evaluated as related to skin photoproperties. Solid-state LED sources and visible and infrared light detectors are useful.
